#48 Guyana Mission Trip
My 48th Mission trip is now in view. Early in my life I set some lifetime goals. One was how many mission endeavors I wanted to participate in over the course of my lifetime. In my 30s the goal was 20. God enabled me to achieve that goal in my early 60s (2008). So He prompted an even higher goal—50 before I die—that has every possibility of being fulfilled in my 70s. As I have written in a forthcoming book, B.H.A.G.s are Big. Holy. Audacious. Goals. “When we fast and pray believing all things are possible with God, we are yielding ourselves to His sovereign plan, trusting Him to do big things only He can do. When we pray and fast, nothing is impossible. Miracles happen.”
Envision as many God-sized goals as He wants you to believe for. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you compellingly audacious goals that are so far beyond you, that they stretch you and you may find as I have, that they are some of your “bravest prayers.” Batterson in If calls such prayers “the ones that you can barely believe God for because they are so impossible.” Remember, the goal is not to be better than anyone else but better than myself and what I can accomplish through human effort alone.
Parenthetically, when The Living Waters Project began its work in the clean water scarce country of Haiti, the goal was to have at least three wells and three new church buildings on all 12 Haitian districts. When God’s Word says, “exceeding abundantly,” or “immeasurably more,” (Eph.3:20) He means it. Clean water is now flowing through 115 wells and cisterns and over 24 church buildings have been constructed. The goal is that 10.4 million Haitians can drink water without getting sick, and know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. I don’t know what the stats are for Haiti, but in Africa, someone dies from bad water, every 23 seconds! A continent, BTW, whose population is growing at 7% a year and will double by 2033.
“If your life were absolutely perfect, how would it look to you?” Turn your good intentions into worthy goals. These require commitments and will help you stay focused on where God has asked You to join Him in Missio Dei. I now have in mind where #49 and #50 may be: Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. Trust God for the finances. Amazing things happen when we obey. Add faith to the equation of your finances, and you just may discover you have more left over than what you started with!
